 Kemik Labels FAQ's

What information do I need to provide for a custom label?
You will need to know the size and shape of your label, how many colours, how many labels you require and the type of material. The conditions that the label will be subjected to will dictate the material used. Is it going to be used in a moist or freezing environment? In direct sunlight or on something that will get hot? We will also need to know if your labels will be machine or hand applied, and if they will be finished on rolls, fan folded or sheeted.

What type of artwork is required?
Mac formatted, camera-ready and colour separated artwork is required. Art created in Corel Draw is also acceptable. Usually if a professional artist has designed your label, it will already be in this format. Graphic or photo files need to be high-resolution at least 1200 pixels per inch for scans and tiffs, 300 DPI for pictures. Files with imbedded images should include the images as separate files. Any fonts used should also be supplied. You will see a proof for approval of text, colour and size prior to making your printing plates.

How to I provide artwork?
Artwork can be emailed or saved to a disc. Large files can be uploaded directly to FTP sites or by using free web based applications. This will be discussed with you when placing your order.

What if I don’t have artwork?
We can provide design services to create your label. If we are designing your label you will see a proof for approval of text, colour and size prior to making your printing plates.

What are plates and why is there a charge associated with it?
Polymer plates are used to print the image on the material. Each printing plate has a raised image representing each colour from your label. The number of plates you need is equal to the numbers of colours in the design. A four-color process job, (cyan, yellow, magenta, and black) can create a picture quality image with only four plates, which can be more cost effective than making a plate for every colour in a multi-coloured design. There is a charge for each individual plate except for 4-colour process plates, which are charged as a set. Once produced, plates belong to you. We will store them onsite for your reorders. Your plates will be made available to you on request.
